Devon Tourists

The first year dad, David and I presented Hannah’s award at Devon, we were too overwhelmed with grief to be tourists. However, the second year, while it was still very solemn, had us ready for adventure. Admittedly, the need for adventure was more for keeping our minds busy and grief at bay. One of the places we investigated was the Cornwall Ironworks Museum. The waterwheel that created energy for the factory was gigantic! There were multiple buildings on the property. When we arrived at the building where the original pot belly stoves were made and assembled, there were docents ready to fill our minds with ironworks history. Then, we participated in making little sand iron ornaments. The process demonstrated how the molds for the iron were made. Of course dad made a better mold than David and I. His letters are legible and lines are crisp. He’s quite a jack of all trades. Our ornaments made the flight home, safely. Someday, when we are ready to start decorating our Christmas trees, again, the ornaments will hang from the branches and remind us fondly of our ironworks tour.
